At the start of the pandemic, JobSeeker (then Newstart) was increased to a liveable rate, pulling many out of poverty. For the first time, families could afford fresh food, warmer clothes, maybe even a book for their kids.
Here in Cooper, there has been a 153% increase of people receiving JobSeeker during COVID-19. That’s nearly 12,000 people who have had their support cut by around $300 a fortnight.
At a time when unemployment is high and jobs are few, we need certainty and security. We need a permanent and adequate increase to JobSeeker. I’ve long been fighting for this and I won’t stop now. Please sign my petition and add your voice to the calls for this increase.
