Education and school funding is the number one topic raised with me. We want the best for our kids. I’m proud that Labor is committed to education and has announced policies which deliver on this promise:
- Schools: We will restore fair, needs-based funding and replace the full $17 billion that the Liberals have cut from our schools. These cuts mean fewer teachers, less one on-one attention, and less help for students with the basics like reading, writing, and maths. Under Labor the neediest schools will get the biggest funding increases.
- TAFE: Labor will place TAFE at the centre of our agenda for vocational education. We will will scrap upfront fees for 100,000 TAFE students in high priority sectors. Labor has guaranteed secure funding for skills and TAFE – and we have committed that at least two thirds of public funding will go to the TAFE network.
- University: Labor believes in quality universities, that’s why we fought the Liberals’ unfair $2.2 billion of cuts and we keep the doors of our universities open – providing opportunity for 200,000 more university graduates.
I meet regularly with principals, leaders from our tertiary sector, parents and students to discuss the education in Batman. If this is a topic you would like to discuss, please contact my office.
