An Albanese Labor Government will invest in the future of sporting facilities in Coburg North, partnering with the Moreland City Council to start work on a new hub for this growing region and creating an “MSAC of the North”.

Coburg North is growing rapidly, but much-loved sporting facilities are falling into disrepair and unable to keep up with demand.

The current sports precinct is home to the Coburg Harriers Athletics Club, Coburg Little Athletics Centre, Coburg Basketball Association, Coburg Table Tennis Club, East Coburg Cricket Club and the Coburg Olympic Pool.

Each of the existing facilities is run by different organisations, are funded separately and are not considered as a whole precinct.

To update the precinct, these facilities must be considered together.

That is why an Albanese Labor Government will invest $2 million to create a masterplan and work towards the development of this precinct, taking into close consideration the needs of each existing user group.

With roughly 500,000 unique visits to the facilities each year, this investment will deliver a better future to local families and local sportspeople.

Quotes attributable to Catherine King, Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development:

“Labor’s social infrastructure investments are about providing a better life to working families.

“That is exactly what this investment will do, providing better facilities to families across Melbourne’s north.

Quotes attributable to Ged Kearney, Member for Cooper:

“The population around Coburg North and the inner North is booming. We want to make sure we have the sporting facilities we need to keep people healthy and connected.”

“If you compare the facilities available to our community with those in other parts of the city, it’s clear that we are being left behind.

“Only Labor has a vision for a sporting precinct that everyone across the Northern suburbs can use.”

Quotes attributable to Peter Khalil, Member for Wills:

“Albert Park has MSAC and Labor will work towards getting Coburg North and the Northern suburbs a sporting facility that meets the needs of the growing community.”

“This will get more kids active and support community groups across our region.

“This is a great investment for our community and only Labor can be trusted to deliver." MEDIA CONTACT FOR GED KEARNEY MP
