As Shadow Assistant Minister for Aged Care, I want to advocate for those left behind by this Government’s aged care policy.
129,000 older Australians are languishing on waiting lists, stuck without Home Care Packages. Last year, 50,000 older Australians died or entered nursing homes whilst waiting for their Home Care Packages to be approved.
The Royal Commission has highlighted terrible cases of neglect in aged care facilities. We in Labor know this isn’t good enough, and it certainly doesn’t show the level of respect older Australians should be able to expect their Government to show them.
The interim report from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety will be handed down in October. I will be working closely with aged care residents, workers, providers and the sector more broadly to ensure that the Government acts to restore the community’s confidence in the aged care system.
